Girls and women are constantly fed the message that taking it off and flaunting your body is what it means to be beautiful. Movies, video games, magazines, and now social media… During our Kouch Time Discussion, I learned that kids are having contests via social media as to who can post the sexiest pictures. That took me by surprise. What will be next?
Where does this problem of oversexualization stem from? And how can we send them out into the world with higher standards?
I think what could make a huge dent into the momentum of this things is if our media and pop culture changed. I love what is happening with addressing bullying in our culture. It think it’s time we also start to tackle self esteem and place the importance back on internal beauty.
