Understanding Grief and Dealing With Death

I’m a big believer in self-help, learning, and growing. One of the toughest topics that we often learn the most from is grief. We are never really prepared for the loss of a loved one, but we can learn about grief from people like my guests who have learned valuable wisdom after having lost a loved one.

Therese is a palliative care nurse. She sits with people at the end of their life and tells us the key things she’s learned about end of life and grief. She says, “You have to be careful with grief because it’s insidious. After the tears, don’t shift into a joyful grieving. You can go down that slippery slope and it’s very dark.”

At an event, I met Ken Druck, who lost his daughter. and heard his take on grief. “When we are fighting for our lives in the beginning of grief, it’s like we are on life support. We have to learn self-care.”

And then I sat down with Pamela who lost her husband in a tragic car accident. She found a way to move forward in her life and found understanding in the grieving process. She tells us, “People are afraid to talk to you about it. And at that time, you need more than anything than to talk about it.”

I hope that you learn something from all of my guests on this heavy-hearted topic. If you are coping with grief, I hope that you find their wisdom helpful in moving on.
